Take advantage of our upcoming workshop to learn or reinforce your skills in dining room service! This workshop is led bythe School for the Service Arts and provides the training and instruction that will assist you in sharpening your skills and/or studying to be a Certified Dining Room Associate ®. Whether you are a dining room professional, restaurateur, caterer, country club professional with a history of dining room service or management, or just wish to take your passion to the next level, this workshop will sharpen your skills as well as provide the career path to higher levels of achievement in the food and beverage arena.

FAQ

When do I have to sign up for the workshop?

The Dining Room Associate (DRA) workshop application and exam payment must be received by August 22nd in order to sit for the certification exam. Those just wishing to take the course must pay online or at the door with check or cash. Credit cards are taken only online

Walk-ins are welcome and registration can be made at the door with cash or check. Applications will be available, but the certification exam may not be available. It is suggested that attendees planning to take the exam pre-register for the 2-day workshop as the online exam is essential only to the certification study group.

How do I apply for the exam?

Potential exam takers should go to www.fdrp.com, go to the STORE ribbon and click on the DRA exam only, or click on the link below to pay $39 for the DRA exam:

Once you pay for the exam, you will receive an email with the site code. Then please go to the www.fdrp.com homepage, sign in as a new user and give the site code given to you in the email to validate your exam portal.

When will the exam be administered?

The workshop will run from 9am – 4pm on both days. The exam will be administered on-line at the site at the end of the workshop. Please bring your computer or iPad. If you do not have a computer, one will be provided for you.

The next time you log on to www.fdrp.com will be at the end of the 2-day workshop. You will login using your username and password given when you filled out the information (write it down and remember it!) At the end of the workshop should be able to go directly to the exam.

Do not take the exam until you have completed the 2-day workshop on August 26-27th or it will not be valid. Ms. Thomas, as an accredited trainer must proctor the exam on site for validity.

The DRA certification on-line exam can only be completed after 16 hours of instruction by the accredited trainer, Ms. Thomas.

How long is the exam?

The multiple-choice online exam takes 30-45 minutes. The exam can be retaken until a passing grade is achieved.  Upon passing, you will download and print the certification certificate. Ms. Thomas will sign it to validate the certification.

What does the workshop provide?

This workshop provides the training and instruction that will assist you in sharpening your skills and/or studying to be a Certified Dining Room Associate ®. Whether you are a dining room professional, restaurateur, caterer, country club professional with a history of dining room service or management, or just wish to take your passion to the next level, this workshop will sharpen your skills as well as provide the career path to higher levels of achievement in the food and beverage arena.

To complete the workshop and qualify for the exam, you must attend all 16 hours of the program. Professor Thomas, who will be vouching for you as an expert to the licensing association.

What value do I receive for my workshop registration fee?
  • A multiple page handout (often used as a future service manual)
  • 16 HOURS OF TRAINING AND VALIDATION OF SKILLS
  • A signed certificate with a dated seal stating you have completed the workshop and have contributed to the non-profit organization. (Proof of a tax deduction for a non-profit cause)

And, if you successfully pass the online exam, an additional certification certificate from the licensing body the Federation of Dining Room Professionals™ stating that you are now a Dining Room Associate™ (DRA) for life with:

What should I wear?

Dress for the workshop is business casual. Please wear comfortable clothes suitable for a classroom setting.

How do I get there?

From Northern Virginia (West):

  • Take I-495 E/I-95 N to Harborview Avenue/MGM National Avenue in Fort Washington
  • Take exit 2A-2B for National Harbor from I-495 E/I-95 N
  • Merge onto Harborview Avenue/MGM National Avenue
  • Use the right lane to continue MGM National Avenue
  • Turn right onto Oxon Hill Road
  • 7100 Oxon Hill Road is .25 miles on left (3rd exit, right turn off roundabout)
  • NOTE: Tanger Outlets National Harbor will be on left side of Oxon Hill Road. The Employment Center is just past the Outlets through the traffic light and roundabout.

  • Take I-495 S/I-95 S to Forest Heights
  • Merge onto I-495 S/I-95 S

  • Use the right lane to take exit 3 for MD-210 toward Forest Heights/Indian Head
  • Take Bald Eagle Road; use any lane to turn slightly left toward Bald Eagle Road/Oxon Hill Farm Road
  • Continue to follow Bald Eagle Road
  • Turn right onto Oxon Hill Road
